Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice
by
Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

The Colors of Christmas

The Colors of Christmas

We drove through Pickens,
South Carolina, following
the road up and over
Caesar’s Head towards
Connestee Falls.

The elevation found a display
of autumn leave leftovers
and barren branches
hung on mountain trees.

The road, grey-misted
and lonely in an afternoon fog,
fell to a valley of green,
quite in contrast
to the December browns.

When we arrived,
Mother was hanging
icicle lights on the house;
it felt like home.

Even the rain
belonged to the day
and the cold outside
found a welcoming fire
inside where the children
and I snuggled

next to the Christmas tree
adorned with my favorite
childhood ornaments,
each special memory
remembered
by those represented.

As dusk seeped her color
across a western sky,
darkness twinkled
diamonds
into a clearing night
that brought a borealis
of pink, peach, and ice blue;

as my children
pressed their noses
to frosted glass
making Santa and reindeer
finger paintings,

I caught the moment
before it drifted away,
tucking it deep inside
next to last year's
Christmas colors.

being thankful...

this year
my girls
were not with me
for
THANKSGIVING

and i missed them
terribly...

they will be home
this evening.

when they are with you all the time
and gone for only 3 days
you become aware
of how much they are
a part of your life.

i have been acutely aware
that everything about them
and who they are
is inside me;
every moment
of everyday....

i love MY girls..

 mommy misses you this moment
AND
any moment

you are not with me....

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center

is an amazing place for learning.

Here is a link where you can track
the turtles that are released.....

While we were at Jekyll Island in July,
we visited the Center. I took these pics of
Timothy being looked after by the doctor
and his staff.....

And another patient in the big tanks...

We visited Harley and learned she would be released
on July 15th.... here are pictures of her
release...

Isn't she gorgeous.... .she headed for the water...
then turned around! (I was thinking
she was probably wondering about the hands
that fed her and her fresh lettuce
everyday!!!)

a late night walk on the beach

Georgia Sea Turtle Center
click on the link above to go to the turtle center

Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest from the story below.....

Mother and I took Olivia
to Jekyll Island for the
Georgia Level 4 Clay Court
Championships over the last
weekend.

On Saturday night, June 18th,
we took Olivia for a late night walk
down to the beach. The tide was
coming in, and it was very dark.
Though a near full moon was
scheduled, it had not come up
in the sky yet.

No more than 5 minutes into the walk,
we saw a tall bearded man running
towards us crouched down yelling
in a whisper for us to crouch down!

We had walked right over sea turtle
tracks and didn't know it!

A Loggerhead was on the dunes at
that moment digging her hole to lay
her eggs....

The Georgia Sea Turtle patrol arrived
and with red lights that don't bother
a sea turtle, they measured the tracks
from the ocean. They waited until she
went into a trance like state, which
a sea turtle will do as they begin to
drop their eggs. At that moment,
the sea patrol team rushed to her
gathering blood from her neck, tagging
her to track her later, measuring her
shell all while in this trance.

Within 20 minutes she was done
and began to cover the eggs, and
then she came down off the dune,
would slowly exert all the energy
she had left, resting every 12 feet
or so until she had again reached
the ocean. And then....

she was gone.

Amazing!!!!!
